Kiya (Starr) Hunt ('99) was the cornerstone of a Blue Knight basketball team that amassed an 85-34 record from 1995-1999. She was a vital part of the 1999 team that became the first in Blue Knight women's basketball history to advance to the NAIA II National Tournament.

As a senior she paced Urbana to an American Mideast Conference championship, a No. 9 national ranking, and a 25-6 overall record - the best winning percentage in Urbana University women's basketball history. Kiya scored 17 points and had 16 rebounds as the Blue Knights shocked No. 1 ranked and eventual national champion Shawnee State University in the 1999 AMC Conference Championship Game, 73-65. Kiya was a four-time 1 st team selection to the MOC and AMC all-conference teams and four-time Player of the Year for the Blue Knights. She made an immediate and lasting impact on the women's basketball program. She was the third Blue Knight to reach the 1,000 point plateau. She put together one of the all-time great careers at Urbana, averaging 12.5 points per contest and never missed a game in her four years. She holds the record for career (80.9) and single season (82.8) free throw percentages. She is ranked in the top seven for career scoring (1494), assists (240), steals (256), and three-point field goals (184).

She was an all-around athlete, having played on the softball team in 1997-1998 and was the MVP of the volleyball team in 1997, her lone season on the team. She was active on campus, always willing to represent the University in a variety of capacities anytime she was called upon. Urbana University is pleased to induct Kiya (Starr) Hunt as the 25th member of the Urbana University Athletic Hall of Fame.
