Hall of Fame
Doug Rutan ('87) was a two-sport star excelling in both football and baseball. He quarterbacked the Blue Knights for three seasons and helped establish football as a new sport. Doug completed 244 of 470 passes for 3,042 yards and 19 touchdowns.
Rutan was even more stellar in baseball with a .410 career batting average, including a .493 in 1987, which ranked him third, nationally, in the NAIA. Doug was Urbana's MVP in both 1986 and 1987.
Further attesting to his versatility, he also played a single season of varsity basketball. Following graduation, Rutan entered the fields of teaching and coaching and continued to excel in both at the time of his induction. He is the 13th member to be inducted into the Esquire Club Urbana University Athletic Hall of Fame.
