Cindy (Frere) Bell ('92) was a four-year letter winner and standout student-athlete for the Blue Knight basketball team from 1988-1992. At 6’3”, the Mt. Vernon High School product was best known as a dominant center and prolific rebounder for the Urbana teams of the early ‘90s. She is the all-time leading rebounder at Urbana with 1,076 rebounds. Nobody else is within 300 rebounds. Cindy owns the top three single season marks for rebounds at Urbana. For her career, Cindy averaged 9.9 rebounds a game over 109 games.
In addition to Frere’s impressive rebounding numbers, she is also Urbana’s all-time scoring leader with 1,775 points. Frere was a fantastic shooter. She is in Urbana’s top 10 all-time in career field goal percentage (47%), free throw percentage (67%), and 3-point percentage (33.6%). Four times Frere was named All-NAIA District 22.
The two-year Blue Knight captain led Urbana to a 23-7 record and Mid-Ohio Conference Championship during her sophomore season. That year, Cindy averaged 18.1 points, 10.8 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per game. Fellow Urbana Hall of Famers Sarita Havens Brown and Jean Twehues were also members of that 1989-90 championship team.
