Hall of Fame
Three-sport standout Jean Twehues ('90) of Tipp City and soccer All-American Lee Schreiner of Grove City were inducted into the Urbana University Athletic Hall of Fame during Homecoming festivities Saturday, October 26, 1996.
Combining God-given athletic talent and tremendous leadership skills, Jean Twehues earned 12 varsity letters in her athletic career at Urbana University from 1986-90. The three-sport standout captained the Lady Blue Knight volleyball, basketball and softball squads, earning All-Mid-Ohio Conference honors in two sports. On the volleyball court, Twehues was named the team's Most Valuable Player three times and served as captain as a junior and senior. On the basketball hardwood she was twice named the team's Best Defensive Player and at the time of her induction stands fourth in career points (938), seventh in career rebounds (338), fourth in field goal percentage (.630) and third in career field goal percentage (.440). She is first in four categories: career assists (338); single season assists (155 in 1990); career steals (284); and single season steals (101 in 1990).
It was her leadership as a senior captain during the 1989-90 season that sparked an otherwise young Lady Knight squad to a 23-7 record and the school's first women's Mid-Ohio Conference Championship with a perfect 8-0 mark. Also, active in campus activities, Jean was named Homecoming Queen in 1989. She returned to her alma mater as an assistant basketball coach for the women's team in 1996. She became the second woman named to the Urbana University Athletic Hall of Fame.
