BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- Urbana University men's golfer Luc Toupin has been selected to the 2018-19 All-MEC First Team, announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
Toupin, a freshman from Pleumeur-Bodou, France, is the first men's golfer in school history to earn all-conference first-team recognition during the Division II era. He has posted a scoring average of 76.8 in 16 rounds played so far this season, and proved to be one of the top MEC golfers with a league scoring average of 74.6. Toupin's notable rounds include a career-low 70 in the MEC Spring Classic and a 72 in his fourth-place finish at the MEC Championship last fall. He added a pair of top 10 finishes during the year at the OVU Highlands Cup Challenge (t-3rd) and MEC Championship (4th).
The University of Charleston's Eoin Cunniffe headlines the 2018-19 Mountain East Conference Men's Golf honors as the league's Player of the Year. West Liberty's Alex Easthom is the Freshman of the Year, while Charleston's Will Johnson was tabbed as the Coach of the Year.
Additionally, five others earned first team honors: Owen Elliott (Shepherd), Ben Knight (Fairmont State), Ritwik Jain (Charleston), Luke Toupin (Urbana) and Sean Trapp (West Liberty).
Drew Call (Shepherd), Noah Clark (Concord), Brett Laxton (Concord), Gian Franco Morassutti (Wheeling Jesuit), Marco Oliverio (Fairmont State) and Jared Porter (Concord) earned MEC second team recognition.
Charleston's Mitch Hoffman and Robin Haesslich earned honorable mention along with UVa-Wise's Alex Arnold, Shepherd's Mike Graessle and Fairmont State's Nicky Moroose.
Charleston's Will Johnson was selected as the MEC Coach of the Year after guiding the Golden Eagles to second-straight MEC championship. Additionally, UC has won three other events the 2018-19 season and was ranked No. 1 in the first edition of the NCAA Atlantic Region rankings. Johnson earns MEC Coach of the Year honors for the third time in his career (2014, 2018, 2019).
The All-MEC teams, along with Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year honors, are determined by scoring average from five rounds at select MEC events. The MEC Coach of the Year is determined by a vote of the league's coaches.
