Men's Golf Advances to MEC Championship Final Round

DANIELS, W. Va. – The Urbana University men's golf team advanced to Wednesday's final round of the MEC Championship after making the six-team cut Tuesday at Glade Springs. It's the second time in three years Urbana will advance to the final stage.

UU finished fifth after 36 holes and sits 14 strokes off the lead with an overall team score of 625. The Blue Knights, who carded four birdies on the final hole, avoided a playoff scenario for the final qualifying spot by two strokes. Both West Virginia Wesleyan and West Liberty finished with a 627 as Wesleyan came out on top in the playoff to advance.

Senior Zach Petticrew continues to lead the Blue Knights, despite an up-and-down round on Day 2, and is tied for eighth with a 152. Petticrew started strong and hovered near the top of the leaderboard after going 1-under on his first nine holes. He then battled through a rough patch to cap the round with his fourth birdie on the final hole.

Reigning All-MEC First Teamer Luc Toupin holds the second-lowest score (156) on the squad in a tie for 16th.

In addition, freshman Martin Trochu (157) fired a team-low 76 on Tuesday to help boost the Blue Knights. Junior Mack Cushman (160) shaved off four strokes to card a 78 while senior Kyle Glaser improved by three strokes (169) with an 83.

UU has never finished better than sixth at the MEC Men's Golf Championship.

Concord (611), Davis & Elkins (612), Charleston (617), and Fairmont State (620) round out the top four teams ahead of Urbana going into Wednesday's round.

Glenville State's Kyle Chung is leading the field of individuals with a two-round score of 143 (-1).
