Men's Golf Shoots 312 in Opening Round of MEC Championship

DANIELS, W. Va. – Zach Petticrew and Luc Toupin finished among the top 10 to lead Urbana University in Monday's opening round of the Mountain East Conference Men's Golf Championship.

UU recorded an overall team score of 312 (+24) for sixth place in the opening round played at The Resort at Glade Springs. The Blue Knights are just six strokes off the lead as Concord finished with 306.

Petticrew carded a team-low 74 and two strokes off the lead, where he is tied for fourth overall with Fairmont State's Matthew Barrish and Patrick Smith from Davis & Elkins. Toupin, who finished fourth in last year's tournament, ended the day tied for seventh on the board after shooting 75. He's tied with Concord's Noah Parker and West Liberty's Howard Peterson.

Rounding out the Blue Knight lineup includes Martin Trochu (81), Mack Cushman (82) and Kyle Glaser (86).

Overall, Charleston's Mitch Hoffman and Glenville State's Kyle Chung both shot even-par 72 for the low score of the tournament after one day.

Round 2 at the MEC Championship gets underway tomorrow morning.
