BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- Notre Dame's Macie Hysell earned Mountain East Conference Women's Golf Player of the Year honors, the league announced Tuesday. The conference also recognized NDC's Armani Shepherd as the Freshman of the Year, and the University of Charleston's Will Johnson was tabbed as the league's Coach of the Year.
Hysell, a junior from Ravenna, Ohio, earned the honor after posting a scoring average of 79.50 in four rounds of select MEC events. She was medalist at the MEC Championship at Glade Springs in the fall, and was the only player under 80 to take medalist honors at the MEC Spring Classic.
Shepherd, a native of Copley, Ohio, averaged 82.3 in four rounds of MEC play to earn Freshman of the Year honors. She was also recognized as a member of the All-MEC first team.
Johnson earns Coach of the Year honors for the third time in four years. He guided the Golden Eagles to their second MEC title in the fall to go with wins at the Wally Edgell Invitational and Mars Hill Spring Invitational.
Joining Hysell and Shepherd on the first team were Charleston's Sarah Feizal, Elizabeth Karsten and Alyssa Wrozier, along with UVa-Wise's Katie Pritchett.
Nine players earned second team honors, including West Virginia Wesleyan's Carleigh Boyd and Beverly Toothman, Wheeling Jesuit's Bailey Frederick and Kailey Pettit, Notre Dame's Alexandra Cardi and Lindsey Miller, along with Concord's Melinda Goda, West Liberty's Kenaida Mills and Urbana's Jennifer Mitchell.
Concord's duo of Sarah Cole and Katelyn Sanders earned honorable mention recognition, as did Charleston's McKenzie Dietz.
The All-MEC teams, along with Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year honors, are determined by scoring average from six rounds at select MEC events. The MEC Coach of the Year is determined by a vote of the league's coaches.
