CANTON, Ohio – The Urbana University men's and women's swimming teams competed Saturday at the Malone Invitational in Canton.
On the men's side, UU finished seventh with 224 points. Freshman
Christian Salinas had four top-10 finishes, including fifth place in the 100 Back (58.45). He also swam the 100 Fly, 200 Fly and 200 IM.
Other individual top finishes included
Matt Wheeler with a sixth-place time in the 50 Back (28.91) while
Tomas Olivos touched the wall at 29.47 for seventh in the 50 Breast.
Nathan Hart finished 15th in the 50 Breast with a finals time of 31.18.
For the Blue Knight women's squad, freshman
Gianna DeCello claimed gold in the 50 Fly (27.54) while posting a pair of top-five finishes in the 50 Free and 100 Free. Also,
Jaybreona Foster logged two fifth-place times in the 100 Breast and 200 Breast.
Jaelle Lindon recorded a third-place time in the 50 Breast (34.65) and eighth place in the 50 Free (26.53).
Other notables included
Ashlynn Miller's 10th-place time in the 50 Back (32.67) and season-best in the 500 Free (6:02.13),
Magdaline Perry's season-best in the 50 Free (28.56) and
Cady Perry's 14th-place finish in the 200 Back.
Ashland won the men's invitational with a score of 983, followed by host Malone in second place (971). Tiffin had 11 gold medals. In the women's meet, Malone took home the title with a score of 1024, narrowly beating out Ashland, which had 10 golds, by six points.
UP NEXT: Urbana travels to the Ohio Wesleyan Invitational next weekend on Saturday-Sunday, Nov. 23-24.
