UU Wraps Up the Inaugural G-MAC/MEC Championship

CANTON, Ohio
 -- Urbana featured three swimmers in finals races to highlight the last day of the 2018 Great Midwest Athletic Conference/Mountain East Conference Swimming and Diving Championships. Overall, the Blue Knights finished ninth with 210 points in the women's championship and seventh in the men's team standings with 57 points.

For the men, Dakota Lewis-Griggs earned All-MEC Honorable Mention status for his performance in the 200-yard backstroke. The junior recorded a finals time of 2:02.19, finishing among top three MEC swimmers for eighth place. In addition, Lewis-Griggs finished seventh in the 100-yard backstroke at 54.55 and 15th in the 50-yard freestyle event with a time of 22.68.

On the women's side, the Blue Knights earned All-MEC Honorable Mention in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:58.63. All four swimmers competed during Championship Week, including junior Holly Fisher, sophomore Ashlynn Miller, freshman Jaelle Lindon and freshman Jaybreona Foster.

Fairmont State finished fourth in the team standings with a score of 820.50 points, just a half a point ahead of West Virginia Wesleyan in fifth. By virtue of their finish, the Fighting Falcons claimed the MEC Women's Swimming championship. Additionally, Fairmont State's Courtney Deem was named the Women's Swimmer of the Meet for her efforts on the week. Deem was a winner in the 1,000 free, 500 free and 200 free, and finished second in the 100 free. 

The Bobcats won the MEC title on the men's side finishing third overall in the meet with 1,165.50 points. Fairmont State was fourth with 862 points.
