UU Picked Ninth in MEC Women's XC Poll

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- Four-time Mountain East Conference champion West Virginia Wesleyan is the pick to take another women's cross country championship this fall. The Bobcats finished atop the poll with 78 points and six first-place votes.

WVWC graduated its top runner from last year, Sydney Pineault, who was a four-time first team All-MEC selection and NCAA Championship qualifier last year, and veteran head coach Jesse Skiles moved to Glenville State to become the Athletic Director. Madison Frame returns for her sophomore season and is the top returning finisher from last year's championship after finishing sixth. Rachael Englund is also back after finishing 16th.

Concord is picked second in the preseason poll with 70 points and one first-place vote. The Mountain Lions return six of their top seven from last year, including in Bailey Knowles, Aidan Payton, Karleigh Thompson and Kenna Knowles who all finished in the top 21.

Wheeling Jesuit finished a close third in the poll with 67 points and had three first-place votes. The Cardinals graduated two of the most decorated athletes in school history in NCAA qualifiers Kelsey Chambers and Kaitlyn Workman, who finished 1-2 in each of the last two conference championships. A pair of second team All-MEC selections in Jordan Delaney and Lindsay Scheffel return this season to help lead WJU.

Charleston was fourth in the preseason polls with 59 points. The Golden Eagles graduated their top two runners, but bring back a strong pack led by Kristiana Skiloutovskaya-Lopez. Fairmont State, led by sophomore Emily Maddow who finished eighth at last year's championship, was fifth with 48 points.

West Liberty has all seven runners back this season and is picked to finish seventh with 43 points. UVa-Wise (30), Glenville State (28), Urbana (18) and West Virginia State (9) round out the poll.
