MEC Cross Country Preseason Polls Released

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- Concord has been picked by the league coaches to win a third-straight conference title in men's cross country.  

The Mountain Lions finished with 71 points and seven first-place votes. CU won the conference championship and became the first team in league history to earn a berth in the NCAA Championships. Concord brings back its top four runners this year, including last year's Runner of the Year, Jason Weitzel.

Charleston was picked to finish second with 61 points and one first-place vote, just ahead of West Virginia Wesleyan (59) and Wheeling Jesuit (52). Fairmont State was picked fifth (39), followed by UVa-Wise (32), West Liberty (31), Notre Dame (29), Glenville State (23) and Urbana (8).

Women's Cross Country: Cards Chosen As MEC Favorite In Women's Cross Country
BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- Wheeling Jesuit is the preseason favorite to win the Mountain East Conference women's cross country title after a vote of the league's coaches.

WJU finished atop the poll with 99 points and nine first-place votes. The Cardinals bring back all five runners that scored at last fall's championship, including three-time MEC Runner of the Year Kelsey Chambers and Kaitlyn Workman, who became the first individual to qualify for the NCAA Championships last season.

West Virginia Wesleyan was second in the poll with 90 points and two first-place votes. Concord was third with 84 points, trailed by Charleston (65), Fairmont State (63), West Liberty (53) and Notre Dame (49). Glenville State and UVa-Wise tied for eighth with 36 points, and Urbana (16) and West Virginia State (14) rounded out the poll.
