SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – Urbana's
Shaunn Monroe had a 15-point performance and Mario Lacy posted his third double-double of the season, but Notre Dame College was just too much in the second half en route to the Falcons downing the Blue Knights 78-63 on Saturday afternoon.
Lacy played high school basketball in Euclid, Ohio, just minutes away from the Notre Dame College campus and had a strong homecoming with 12 points to go along with 10 rebounds.
Tehree Horn also added a 10-point and six-rebound performance for
Josh Gibson's crew.
The Blue Knights began the game hot from behind the three-point arc knocking down four out of the first five attempts but would eventually cool down, going 8 for 23 the rest of the way.
Monroe, who is a freshman guard from Fairborn, Ohio, knocked down his first three three-point attempts. He finished 5 for 11 overall from the field to go along with his six rebounds.
After Monroe nailed his third three-pointer to put the Blue Knights up 14-8 at the 14:59 mark of the first half, it took 8:40 of gameplay before the Falcons would take the lead at 25-24.
The rest of the first half saw the Blue Knights (4-14, 3-9 MEC) battle tooth and nail with the Falcons (6-12, 4-8 MEC) including a four-point lead for Urbana after a
Jordan Bradley basket and free throw made it 33-29.
Notre Dame College would close out the first half on a 9-2 run for a 38-35 lead going into the locker room, but would extend the run to 31-9 into the second half over a span of 13 minutes. That put the Falcons ahead for good with the score 60-42 for the largest lead of the night for either team.
The Falcons saw four eclipse the double-digit scoring column led by DeAnthony Owens' 20 points and Levi Frankland's 14.
UP NEXT: The Blue Knights will return to the Warren G. Grimes Center on Wednesday, Jan. 29, to face off against the Pioneers of Glenville State College with a tipoff tentatively scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.
