Cross Country Closes Season at MEC Championships

WHEELING, W.Va. 
– The Urbana University men's and women's cross country teams closed out the season at the Mountain East Conference Championships Saturday morning at the Crispin Course at Oglebay Resort.

//  WOMEN'S RECAP
The UU women's team finished ninth with 284 points in the 6,000-meter race. Leading the way was Ashlynn Miller with a team-low 35:19.7 in 52nd place.

Concord placed six runners in the top 15 to propel the Mountain Lions to the women's team title. Wheeling Jesuit's Lindsay Scheffel led the field after finishing the 6,000-meter race with a time of 25:18.

Concord head coach Mike Cox was selected as the league's Coach of the Year for guiding the Mountain Lions to the title.
 
The Mountain Lions won the title with 46 points, ahead of Charleston's 58 points. West Virginia Wesleyan was third with 77 points, followed by Wheeling Jesuit (93), Fairmont State (97), West Liberty (126), UVa-Wise (200), Glenville State (218), Urbana (284), and West Virginia State (312).

// MEN'S RECAP

On the men's side, freshman Matthew Hull led the Blue Knights by crossing at 37:00.8. UU placed ninth in the team standings with 257 points.

Charleston placed six runners in the top 10 to win the men's championship. The win marked the first MEC men's cross country title for UC. For the team's efforts, coach Nick Bias was named the MEC Coach of the Year.

Concord was runner-up with 46 points. Jason Weitzel won the race with a time of 27:08 and was later named the MEC Runner of the Year.

West Virginia Wesleyan took fourth (100), followed by Wheeling Jesuit (151). WJU's Devin Rich managed first team All-MEC honors with a ninth-place finish. Fairmont State was sixth (158), Glenville State was eighth (184), followed by UVa-Wise (194) and Urbana (257).
