Blue Knights Drop Opening Games in Florida

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. - The Urbana University softball team dropped its opening pair of matchups at the Spring Games in Clermont, Florida, falling 15-0 to Minnesota State-Mankato and 14-6 to Walsh on Saturday afternoon.

In the second game against Walsh, UU jumped out to a 6-2 advantage after two innings with two runs in the first frame and four in the second. Senior Courtney Stewart finished 2 for 4 at the plate with two singles and two runs scored, while redshirt-junior Caitlyn Stoner went deep in the second inning (ninth career home run) and walked twice to reach base three times in four plate appearances.

Junior Margo Jackson also reached three times with a single and pair of walks and freshman Mykee Holtz produced two singles while fellow newcomers Bailee Faulkner and Riley Curtis each recorded their first career base knocks.

Urbana returns to Florida action with a Sunday doubleheader against Ferris State (1 p.m.) and Lewis (3:30 p.m.).
