Blue Knights Close Home Tourney with Pair of Wins

URBANA, Ohio – Urbana University volleyball picked up two more wins on Saturday to wrap up play in its home tournament with a 3-1 record.

UU (6-7) defeated Shepherd in straight sets (25-17, 25-19, 27-25), before overpowering Malone in four sets (25-16, 25-17, 23-25, 25-23) during the weekend finale inside the Warren G. Grimes Center.

The Blue Knights featured strong play from a host of players on Saturday.

Mikaela Beck, Katlynn Dunlap and Emilee Skerbetz provided the offense as the team's kill leaders. All three recorded 12 kills in a balanced attack against Malone.

Setter Alyssa Myers continued to provide solid passing with over 40 assists in both matches, while Maia Dunlap held down the court defensively with 24 combined digs.

Others in the lineup proved to be crucial in the team's success over the weekend, including Brianna Burkhalter, Audrey Pumford, Aleese Butler and Madison Davis.

Urbana's only loss in the five-team event came against a 10-1 Armstrong State squad in five sets. The Pirates went undefeated against Urbana, Malone, Kutztown and Shepherd. UU finished with the second-best record.

The Blue Knights return to action in the Grimes Center next Friday-Saturday, Sept. 23-24, to open conference play against West Liberty and No. 6 Wheeling Jesuit.

Friday's matchup with the Hilltoppers is scheduled for 7 p.m., and Saturday's meeting with the reigning national champion Cardinals will start at 5 p.m., following the Urbana home football game.
