LEXINGTON, Ky. - Urbana University's
Courtney Niesen has earned a spot on the All-Atlantic Region Honorable Mention Team from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).
Niesen, who was named All-MEC First Team, becomes just the third women's volleyball player in school history to earn all-region honors from the AVCA. The junior libero finished fifth in the nation with 710 digs and 10th in digs per set (5.92) while helping Urbana reach the MEC Finals for the first time in school history. Niesen was twice named MEC Defensive Player of the Week. She garnered one of the weekly awards after breaking the school digs record with 44 against Notre Dame College.
Seven players from the Mountain East Conference earned All-Atlantic Region honors, including the region's Player of the Year, Haley Kramer of Wheeling University.
Previous Urbana all-region AVCA performers include Katlynn Dunlap, who was first team in 2017, and Mary Brunner, who was first team in 2005 and 2006.
