Blue Knights Run Win Streak to Six



URBANA, Ohio - The Urbana University volleyball team extended its win streak to six matches after a 3-0 win over Central State in non-conference action Tuesday night in Grimes Center.

UU improved to 15-11 overall on the season while the visiting Marauders (2-22) dropped their eighth straight. The Blue Knights won by scores of 25-10, 25-13, and 25-17.

Katlynn Dunlap led a balanced UU attack with 11 kills and four digs, followed by Emilee Skerbetz and Mikaela Beck (.692) each with nine kills. Skerbetz got a hand on five blocks and Beck contributed six digs.

Addtionally, Aleese Butler put down seven kills, Madison Davis had five, and Callahan Baxter and Taylor Clark each had a pair of kills. UU saw 11 of its 12 players that stepped on the court register a dig. Maia Dunlap was the team leader with 13 successful receptions on defense.

After cruising in the opening two sets, UU was forced to play from behind in the third and adjusted nicely. Central State jumped ahead 4-1 in the final frame and then held a 10-9 advantage over the Blue Knights. Then, UU finally stepped on the gas with four consecutive points and never relinquished the lead again.

The Blue Knights hit .267 as a unit on attack chances, including a match-best .394 mark in the first set. UU also recorded five aces and five blocks.

Urbana returns to league play this weekend when it hosts Shepherd on Friday (6 p.m.) and Fairmont State (5 p.m.) on Saturday in the final two home matches of the season.
