Urbana Gathers Pair of Non-Conference Victories

WILBERFORCE, Ohio - The Urbana University women's volleyball team won both of its matches in non-conference action Tuesday night, including a 3-1 triumph over Lake Erie and 3-0 win versus host Central State. UU improves to 13-11 overall and returns to MEC play on Friday.

Urbana, who has won four straight matches, fell behind early against Lake Erie by dropping the first set 25-17. However, the Blue and Grey responded nicely with three straight wins in very tight competition: 25-23, 25-22, 25-23.

Mikaela Beck produced a career-high 24 kills in the effort while registering a solid .447 attacking percentage. Aleese Butler stepped up with her second-highest kill total of the season with 12, as Katlynn Dunlap also reached double figures with 10 kills.

Maia Dunlap had 12 digs and six assists and Briana Burkhalter gathered eight digs. Alyssa Myers dished out 40 assists and recorded a team-high three aces.

Both teams found success with a .300-plus hitting percentage. The Blue Knights posted a mark of .312 with a combined eight points coming off service aces.

UU then took on host Central State immediately following the close match with the Storm and came out on top in three sets: 25-21, 25-13, 25-11.

The Blue Knights hit over .400 and were led once again by Beck (12 kills) and Butler (10 kills). Beck had 12 kills on 15 attack chances, and did not commit an error.

Emilee Skerbetz and Myers each had six kills, while multiple others contributed in the win.

Urbana returns to action Friday night at West Virginia State (7 p.m.), before returning to the Grimes Center to host the final three home matches of the season next week.
