Records: Urbana – 4-16 (3-11 MEC) / Davis & Elkins – 6-14 (4-10 MEC)
URBANA, Ohio – The Urbana men's basketball team is looking to snap a season-high six-game losing streak tomorrow night when it takes on Davis & Elkins. The midweek tilt is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. inside the McDonnell Center located in Elkins, West Virginia.
The Blue Knights, who are 2-9 since defeating the Senators 83-76 in December, will cap a brutal stretch of playing five of six games away from the Grimes Center.
1) FRESHMEN LEADING: Three of Urbana's four top scorers averaging double digits in the scoring column are freshmen.
Tehree Horn leads the squad with 11.4 points per game and is one of the team's top rebounders (5.0). Horn logged his second double-double in last week's overtime loss to Glenville State.
Shaunn Monroe is heating up, scoring 15.8 points per game over the past six outings to raise his season average to 10.3 points. Monroe has knocked down 44 percent from three-point range during the recent tear.
Mario Lacy Jr. is averaging 10.1 points and 5.9 boards while shooting a team-high 59 percent from the field. He's scored double figures in six out of eight games while posting a pair of double-doubles. Additionally, sophomore newcomer
Kyle Kegley leads the team in rebounding despite missing the past six games with injury.
2) SO CLOSE, YET SO FAR: Urbana came up short in several close games during the first half of the season as 9 of the first 14 contests were decided by single digits. In those nine games, the Blue Knights posted a 3-6 record and held a lead in every matchup. Urbana has led four of the previous six games during the recent skid, including double-digit leads over West Virginia State and Glenville State. Additionally, the Blue Knights are 3-5 in games where they've led at halftime and have only led once going into the locker room during the current losing streak (Glenville).
3) STINGY D: Urbana ranks third in the MEC in scoring defense by allowing 75.3 points per game. If the Blue Knights can keep the trend going on defense then this year's team would be the first to hold opponents under 80.0 points during the MEC era.
4) A WIN WOULD … snap the six-game losing streak and capture a season sweep over Davis & Elkins.
5) THE SENATORS: Davis & Elkins enters the Wednesday night matchup coming off a pair of road losses last week to West Liberty and Wheeling. The Senators have dropped four of five games recently, but recorded a nice home win over Glenville three weeks ago. The last three games played in the McDonnell Center have been decided by single digits and the Senators are 2-1 in those games. Five of the team's six wins have been at home. Senior guard Donte Doleman leads three players in double digits with 17.9 points per game Doleman is shooting 46 percent from three-point range. Senior forward Erkam Kiris averages 14.7 points and team-high 6.7 rebounds per contest.
SERIES VS. DAVIS & ELKINS
Urbana leads the all-time series 3-2 after its victory over the Senators earlier this season. Wednesday's game will only be the second meeting as MEC members. The Blue Knights are 1-1 in games played in Elkins and claimed the last meeting on Dec. 10, 2016 by a final score of 76-74. All five games have been decided by an average scoring margin of 6.4.
