ATHENS, W. Va. – Time ran out on Urbana's comeback attempt Saturday afternoon as the Blue Knights fell in overtime 92-90 at Concord.
It was the second straight overtime loss inside the Carter Center for the Blue Knights.
Tyra James led the way with her fourth 30-point game, including a go-ahead jumper with 19 seconds left in regulation. James filled the stat sheet with 30 points, nine rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Urbana (12-8, 8-6 MEC) trailed by 23 near the end of the second quarter, but closed the gap to four heading into the fourth quarter down 64-60.
Sylvia Hudson's layup with 6:20 left in regulation gave UU its first lead 72-71, but it was short-lived after Concord quickly responded.
Hudson finished with 24 points, five boards, four assists and two steals before fouling out in the final minute of the fourth quarter. After starting 1 of 7 from the field, Hudson made her next 9 of 10 attempts and logged 14 points in the third quarter to lead the comeback.
Kami McEldowney was also a key contributor in the third quarter surge where she scored nine of her 16 points off of three treys. She finished with five steals, four boards and two assists.
UU's second lead of the night came when James' jumper put the Blue Knights ahead 82-81 with 19 seconds remaining, which was followed by a free throw from
Lexie Wright to make it a two-point game.
Then, coming out of a timeout, Concord's Maggie Guynn got the game-tying layup to drop with four seconds left to even the score at 83-83.
The overtime period would also come down to the wire as Riley Fitzwater put the Mountain Lions on top with 4.7 seconds. James got a decent look at the buzzer, but the potential game-tying attempt wouldn't fall.
Fitzwater and Madison May each recorded double-doubles for Concord. The 6-foot-4 Fitzwater finished with 20 points and 12 boards, including six on the offensive end. May led with 25 points and 11 rebounds.
Concord dominated the boards with a 53-31 rebounding advantage to overcome 26 turnovers. The Mountain Lions turned 14 offensive rebounds into 18 second-chance points. Urbana tied its season-low with 10 turnovers.
Urbana shot 41 percent overall and knocked down 17 of 20 (85%) at the free-throw line. Concord made 47 percent of its shot attempts while going 18 of 26 (69%) at the charity stripe.
