LEBANON, Ill. – The Urbana men's volleyball team fell 3-0 at McKendree Friday night, 25-15, 29-27, 25-14.
UU drops to 0-9 on the season and will seek its first win tomorrow night at Lindenwood (MO). The host McKendree squad improved to 5-4 overall.
Jack Brinkman and
Liam Morrissey led the Blue Knights with nine kills, each. Brinkman added two block assists while Morrissey recorded a pair of digs.
Preston Kent added three kills while
Tomas Beralas had two kills and team-high eight digs.
Setter
Chaz Hafer logged 22 assists, four digs and 1.5 blocks.
After dropping the opening set, Urbana fought all the way back in the second frame to claim its first lead of the night with set point, 24-23.
The Blue Knights would have three different opportunities with set point, but the Bearcats were able to slip by. Back-to-back kills by Brinkman put UU ahead 26-25 and the Blue Knights also led 27-26, but couldn't close it out.
McKendree rode the momentum from winning the second set and coasted through the third after building a 17-6 lead.
Urbana hit just .038 overall including minus-0.318 in the third stanza, while the hosts hit .300 during the match. McKendree tallied 9.5 blocks.
MU's Pat Ross led the Bearcats with eight kills while Wyatt Dimke posted six kills, five block assists and three digs.
UP NEXT: Urbana travels to St. Charles, Missouri for Saturday night's match at Lindenwood. First serve is slated for 8:30 p.m. ET.
