ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The Urbana men's volleyball team battled to take the third set, but couldn't keep the momentum going in Saturday's defeat at Lindenwood.
The host Lions won 3-1 by scores of 25-16, 25-12, 24-26, and 25-20 inside Hyland Arena.
Freshman duo
Tyler Chavez and
Jack Brinkman led the way with each player recording double-digit kills. Chavez hit .212 while putting down a career-high 12 kills along with four digs and an assist. Brinkman swung at a .167 clip with 10 kills, five digs and two assists.
Liam Morrissey chipped in with six kills while
Preston Kent posted five kills, five digs and two block assists.
Setter
Chaz Hafer dished out 35 helpers and tied Brinkman with a team-high five digs. It was Hafer's second-highest assist total of the season.
Urbana (0-10) hit .192 overall as a team including over .200 in three of the four sets. The Blue Knights were limited to just a 0.05 hitting percentage in the second frame. Lindenwood hit .398 overall.
AJ Lewis led Lindenwood (5-4) with 12 kills and five digs. Sam Schindler, who is a Dayton native, recorded nine kills. Logan Nash had four aces as the Lions racked up an 8-1 advantage in points off serves. LU's setter Brian Schwob finished with 41 assists.
UP NEXT: Urbana travels to Ball State on Thursday, Feb. 6 and Purdue Fort Wayne on Friday, Feb. 7.
The Blue Knights will return home for a tri-match on Sunday, Feb. 9.
