Slow start dooms Urbana at No. 15 Loyola Chicago

CHICAGO – The young, upstart Urbana University men's volleyball program saw its first nationally televised match on ESPN3 end in defeat to No. 15 Loyola University Chicago 3-0 (25-12, 25-16, 25-19) on Saturday night.

The Blue Knights were only able to hit at a .125 clip for the match on 21 kills with 14 attack errors in 56 attempts, compared to the Ramblers' .469 hitting percentage on 38 kills to just eight attack errors in 64 attempts.

The Ramblers (3-5) were led by Devin Joslyn and Kyle Piekarski who tallied 13 and 12 kills respectively.

Jack Brinkman led the way for the Blue Knights (0-8) with seven kills and four digs and was followed closely by Liam Morrissey who notched six kills and two digs.

Urbana was only able to grin out 13 digs on the match as Loyola seemingly found every hard-to-find open spot on the floor.

Chaz Hafer dished out 18 assists from his setter position.

UP NEXT: The Blue Knights will continue their six-match road trip away from the Grimes Center with contests at McKendree University on Friday, Jan. 31, and at Lindenwood University on Saturday, Feb. 1. First serve against McKendree is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT while the Lindenwood match will start at 7:30 p.m. CT.

Urbana will not return to action in the Grimes Center until a tri-match against Daemen College and Lincoln Memorial University gets underway on Sunday, Feb. 9.
