WEST LIBERTY, W. Va. – Urbana wrestling (3-9) split a pair of duals Sunday afternoon at West Liberty University, defeating Fairmont State 22-13 before falling to the 12th-ranked Hilltoppers 39-8.
Urbana's
Alec Fulwider and
Jake Edwards opened with back-to-back victories in the opener against Fairmont. Fulwider won by 2-1 decision over FSU's Levi Smith at 133 pounds to earn his second win of the season. Edwards picked up his seventh victory at 141 pounds after a 12-3 major decision over FSU's Dylan Dennison.
After
Jake Lees (157) and
Brendon Hartsell (184) won by forfeit,
Connor Dixon claimed his first victory at 197 pounds by defeating John Halajian by an 11-8 decision.
Fairmont won by decision at 149, 165 and 285, and major decision at 174, as Urbana bumped a few guys up in weight class. It was the first meeting ever between the two programs.
In the second match against No. 12 West Liberty, Dixon and
Cole Houser earned the only two wins for Urbana.
Dixon improved to 10-6 overall with an 8-4 decision against Garrett Cook at 184 pounds. Houser picked up five points for the Blue Knights with a tech fall (19-5) over Blake Miller at 157 pounds. Houser ran his overall season record to 16-5.
UP NEXT: Urbana will host No. 8 Ashland on Wednesday night in the Grimes Center.
