URBANA, Ohio – The Urbana men's wrestling team suffered a 38-13 defeat to Lake Erie College in the home finale at the Grimes Center on Friday night.
Urbana (3-11) tried to claw back from an early 15-0 deficit after back-to-back wins from
Jared Ford and
Cole Houser at 149 and 157, respectively. Ford secured a last-second win over Conor Donahue, 8-7, while Houser overpowered Jacob Potok with a 12-0 major decision.
Down 15-7 and within striking distance,
Jake Lees nearly kept the momentum going by coming within inches of a pin in the opening round at 165. However, Lake Erie's James Penfold held on until the final period where he countered with a pin despite Lees controlling the majority of the match.
The momentum swing turned out huge for the visitors, who moved ahead 38-7 going into the heavyweight bout.
Urbana's
Nick Baker ended the night on a positive note for the Blue Knights with a pin in 4:39 over Devin Uzelac.
UP NEXT: With the regular season complete, the Blue Knights will gear up for the NCAA Super Region III tournament hosted on Saturday, Feb. 29 in Indianapolis.
