Men's Basketball drops home contest to Charleston

URBANA, Ohio – The Urbana University men's basketball team fell to visiting Charleston (WV), 80-64, on Wednesday night inside the Grimes Center.

UU dropped to 4-11 (3-6 MEC) on the season as UC improved to 13-2 (7-2 MEC) while winning its eighth straight.

Jordan Bradley led Urbana with 16 points and four assists. Shaunn Monroe tacked on 11 including seven in the first half while Kyle Kegley grabbed a team-high seven rebounds with seven points.

An early 11-3 first-half run put Charleston ahead 22-7, but a three from Brandon Michrina trimmed the Blue Knights' deficit to eight at the 5:30 mark.

However, the Golden Eagles caught fire at the end of the half from beyond the arc by draining 4 of 5 three-point attempts over the final three minutes. UC led 37-24 at halftime and remained out in front by double digits the rest of the way after finishing the opening period 8 of 14 from deep.

The Golden Eagles dominated the glass with a 38-25 edge in rebounds and shot 54 percent overall from the field. UU was limited to 40-percent shooting overall, but only turned the ball over seven times while forcing 15 UC turnovers.

The Blue Knights also registered a 37-7 advantage in bench scoring as three Charleston players combined for 66 points. Columbus native Seth O'Neal led all scorers with 27 points on 10-of-13 shooting and five treys. Devon Robinson turned in a double-double with 20 points and 10 boards, going 10 for 10 at the free-throw line. Drew Rackley hit four 3-pointers and finished with 19 points.

UP NEXT: UU travels to West Virginia State on Saturday for a 4 p.m. tipoff in Institute, West Virginia. The Yellow Jackets (11-3, 6-3 MEC) are coming off their fifth straight win in a 94-85 road victory Wednesday night at Notre Dame College.
