PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Urbana University women's volleyball team dropped a pair of five-set thrillers to conclude their weekend road trip including setbacks to Pitt-Johnstown 3-2 (25-19, 25-17, 14-25, 15-25, 15-13) and Lake Erie 3-2 (29-27, 21-25, 25-19, 18-25, 16-14) on Saturday.
In the first match of the day against Pitt-Johnstown (7-2), the Blue Knights rallied from a two-set deficit to force a decisive fifth set. Urbana attacked at a poultry .119 clip in the first two sets, but improved their attack to .343 in the third and fourth sets combined,
Hannah Delor led the Blue Knights with 19 kills, 15 digs, and an ace.
Maggie Burns (13) and
Lexi Reinert (11) also tallied double-digit kills for the Blue Knights.
Anna Davis compiled 46 assists in the match to go along with 15 digs and three blocks.
Natalie Perez led the way at the net on defense with five blocks while
Courtney Niesen collected 25 digs to lead Urbana in that category.
The Blue Knights' second match was a back-and-forth affair with Lake Erie as the two teams alternated set wins. In the deciding set, the homestanding Storm rallied from a 13-9 deficit and reeled off seven of the next eight points to seal the win.
Urbana (3-7) hit at a .223 clip for the match while Lake Erie (2-9) hit slightly better at .223. The Blue Knights notched 10 aces and seven blocks to the Storm's four and three respectively.
Delor once again led the Blue Knights in kills by collecting 23 against just nine errors on 66 attack attempts for a .212 hitting percentage. Delor also added 10 digs for her second double-double on the day.
Davis also collected a second double-double of her own as she led the way with 51 assists coupled with 21 digs. Niesen added another 30 digs to finish with 55 on the day.
UP NEXT: The Blue Knights will return to action on Friday, September 27, for their home opener in the Grimes Center. Frostburg State will come to town for a Mountain East Conference clash with first serve scheduled for 6 p.m.
