Volleyball Opens Conference Play with a Win

URBANA, Ohio – The Urbana University women's volleyball team opened league play with a 3-0 home win over Frostburg State Friday in Grimes Center. The Blue Knights won by final set scores of 25-18, 25-16, & 25-12.

UU improved to 4-7 overall and starts league play at 1-0. The Frostburg State Bobcats fell to 6-4 overall after falling in the first MEC match in the school's history.

Lexi Reinert led the way with a season-high 12 kills and .409 hitting percentage. Overall, UU hit at an efficient clip of .283 for the match while limiting Frostburg State to minus-.023. The Blue Knights had six aces and only three serve reception errors.

Hannah Delor also reached double-digit kills with 11 as Natalie Perez and Maggie Burns each logged seven. Five Blue Knights registered at least six digs. Setter Anna Davis finished with a team-high 34 digs.

FSU held a lead early in each set, but UU remained steady and overpowered the Bobcats down the stretch. The Blue Knights closed the first set on a 15-8 run and then topped off the second frame with a 13-6 advantage. UU closed out the match with an impressive 18-5 run in the final set.

Frostburg's Jackie Sterenberg led the visitors with eight kills, along with setter Edwyna Lainez who recorded a double-double effort with 19 assists and 12 digs.

UP NEXT: UU is right back in action in less than 24 hours with tomorrow's home match against Fairmont State. First serve between the Blue Knights and Fighting Falcons is slated for 5 p.m. in Grimes Center.
