DELAWARE, Ohio – Christian Salinas set a new school record in the men's 1650 freestyle and the women's team claimed gold in the 200 freestyle relay as the Urbana University swim teams competed in the annual Corbiere-Merion Invitational, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan.
Both Urbana teams finished fifth in the team standings as the Blue Knight men produced a team score of 229 and the women finished with an overall score of 295.
Salinas, a freshman from Sellersburg, Indiana, shattered the UU men's record in the 1650 free by more than 20 seconds with a finals time of 16:51.07. He also placed first in the 200 butterfly with a finals time of 1:58.96 and captured silver in the 500 free with a time of 4:56.84.
Jacob Voisinet helped lead the men's team with a pair of fourth-place finishes in the 200 breast (2:22.26) and 100 IM (58.33).
On the women's side, Urbana's 200 free relay team made up of
Jaelle Lindon,
Cady Perry,
Ashlynn Miller and
Gianna DeCello pulled out the first-place finish with a time of 1:45.28, edging West Virginia Wesleyan by less than a second.
The Blue Knight women's 200 medley relay finished second with a finals time of 1:56.51, which included
Ashlynn Miller,
Jaybreona Foster,
Gianna DeCello and
Jaelle Lindon.
DeCello claimed silver in the 100 butterfly with a finals time of 1:01.09 and bronze in the 50 free with a time of 26.15. She also ended up fourth in the 100 free (57.20).
Additionally, Foster recorded a pair of bronze finishes in the 100 breast (1:11.13) and 200 breast (2:35.16), while Lindon claimed silver in the 50 free (26.00).
UP NEXT: The Blue Knights will return to official competition when they host Alderson Broaddus and Tiffin on Friday-Saturday, Jan. 17-18.
