INSTITUTE, W.Va. – The Urbana University women's volleyball team battled back from a first-set loss to defeat West Virginia State University 3-1 (22-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-17) in a tightly contested match for second place in the Mountain East Conference on Saturday afternoon.
The win gives the Blue Knights (14-9, 10-1 MEC) a two-game advantage over both WVSU (16-12, 8-3 MEC) and Davis & Elkins College, who are tied for third place with five conference matches remaining.
Lexi Reinert, a sophomore from Cincinnati, led the way for the Blue Knights offensive attack with 15 kills off a .250 hitting percentage. Reinert's performance was followed closely by
Maggie Burns' 13 kills and a team-best .278 hitting percentage.
Courtney Niesen played a phenomenal match from her libero position as she collected 34 digs. Niesen also tallied four service aces to lead the team in that category.
Anna Davis was brilliant once again at her setter position as she dished out 43 assists. Davis also converted five kills and one service ace in conjunction with two block assists.
Hannah Delor posted an offensive-defensive double-double with 11 kills and 15 digs. It was her 21
st double-double on the season.
UU tallied an outstanding 14 service aces and 16 blocks as a team to outpace the Yellow Jackets. The Blue Knights hit at a .162 clip while WVSU hit just .145.
