ALLIANCE, Ohio – The second season of Urbana University wrestling began Saturday with
Cole Houser,
Connor Dixon and
Nick Baker winning titles at the Mount Union Invitational. The Blue Knights totaled 11 placers in the first competition of the year.
Houser, who is the team's leading returner, won the title in 158 pounds by going 4-0. The sophomore recorded a 17-1 tech fall over Defiance's Derek Spears and pulled out a 9-6 decision over Lake Erie's Jacob Potok. He won by major decision to advance to the title bout, which he won by a 7-5 decision over Bellarmine's Devan Hendricks.
Dixon dominated at 185 pounds with three consecutive pins over Brockport's Kyler Martin (4:00), teammate
Brendon Hartsell (1:53) and Adrian's Kyle Emery (4:24).
In his freshman debut, Baker came out on top in the heavyweight bracket at 286 pounds. He registered two pins and a tight 4-2 decision over Belmont Abbey's John Carroll. In the title bout, Baker pinned Adrian's Drew McCullough in 2:08.
Additionally,
Jared Ford finished third at 150 pounds, while fourth-place finishers included Alex Fulwider (142 lbs),
Cameron Carnevale (166 lbs),
Brendon Hartsell (185 lbs) and
Seth Duvall (286 lbs). Jacob Edwards was fifth in 142 lbs as
Dylan Knotts and
David Gilbert finished sixth at 166 lbs and 175 lbs, respectively.
