Urbana Builds Late Momentum to Slide Past D&E

URBANA, Ohio – Three players produced 12 kills to lead Urbana University women's volleyball past Davis & Elkins in straight sets, 25-12, 25-21, 25-23, Friday night in Grimes Center.

With the win, Urbana improved to 7-1 in conference play and moved to 11-9 overall on the season. The Blue Knights have recorded five wins in straight sets. The visiting Senators of Davis & Elkins dropped to 11-7 (5-3 MEC).

Maggie Burns had 12 kills and 13 digs, Hannah Delor posted 12 kills and 11 digs, and Lexi Reinert put down 12 kills to lead the attack. Setter Anna Davis stuffed the stat sheet with 34 assists, eight digs and five kills, while libero Courtney Niesen gathered a team-high 18 digs. Jenna Franks also provided great defense with 15 digs.

Leading the visitors was Kaitlyn LeCour with 13 kills and 12 digs, along with setter Sarah Warren who dished out 23 assists and had 12 digs.

UU outhit the Senators .226 to .078 overall in the match, including an impressive .368 hitting percentage in the opening set. The Blue Knights had seven aces and seven blocks, but also struggled with seven service errors. UU also held the slight edge in digs, 68-65.

UP NEXT: UU comes right back to the Grimes Center tomorrow afternoon for a 5 p.m. match against West Virginia Wesleyan, following the home football game on campus.
