URBANA, Ohio – The Urbana University women's volleyball team (12-9, 8-1 MEC) bounced back from losing the first set to West Virginia Wesleyan College to win the match in four sets (28-30, 25-17, 25.16, 25-17) during Saturday night's Dig Pink match in the Grimes Center.
Coach Kara Hellman's squad played a back-and-forth first set with the Bobcats (5-14, 2-6 MEC) as neither team could muster a lead of more than a couple points, but from the beginning of the second set on, it was all Blue Knights the rest of the way.
Anna Davis, a junior setter from Aurora, Ohio, had plenty of weapons on the offensive front to help her collect 50 assists in the match and upping her season total to 744 assists in 21 matches. Davis narrowly missed a double-double as she collected nine digs on the night.
Among those weapons were
Lexi Reinert and
Hannah Delor as both finished with double-digit kills. Reinert, a sophomore from Cincinnati, Ohio, led the way with 18 kills. Reinert would also attack at a .500 rate. Delor tallied 14 kills to bring her total for the season to 268. Delor hit at a .222 clip and added five digs as well as four blocks including one solo.
In a true team effort, the Blue Knights only had one player lead the team in offensive and defensive categories.
Courtney Niesen collected 19 digs as well as three service aces.
Natalie Perez had a team-best hitting percentage at .538 on the night as she tallied eight kills from her middle hitter position.
Kaitlin Trace and
Maggie Burns each amassed nine kills. Trace would also tie Delor with four blocks in the contest.
The win kept the Blue Knights in second place behind Wheeling University in the Mountain East Conference standings.
