URBANA, Ohio – Urbana University men's and women's swimming hosted Notre Dame College in the home opener Friday afternoon at Grimes Center.
In the women's matchup, Notre Dame came out on top by a final score of 122-81. The visiting Falcons also took the men's matchup by an overall team score of 155-75.
The Blue Knights racked up six top finishes on the men's side, led by freshman
Christian Salinas who set a new school record in the 1000 Free and totaled three top finishes in his collegiate debut. Salinas set the new standard in the 1000 Free with a time of 10:20.61. He also claimed the 100 Fly (56.22) and the 500 Free (4:58.54).
Senior
Tomas Olivos recorded a pair of top times as well, including first place in the 50 Breast (29.43) and 100 Breast (1:03.83).
Matt Wheeler posted the other top finish in the 50 Back with a final time of 28.13 in his season debut.
For the women,
Gianna DeCello impressed in her first collegiate outing with three of the Blue Knights' five top finishes. The freshman from Hamilton, Ohio captured top times in the 50 Free (25.79), 100 Free (56.58) and 50 Fly (27.64).
MEC Swimmer of the Week
Jaybreona Foster continued her early season dominance with two more first-place finishes. Foster swept the breaststroke events with times of 33:64 (50 Breast) and 1:13.02 (100 Breast).
