Volleyball Swept by Cedarville on the Road

CEDARVILLE, Ohio – The Urbana University women's volleyball team fell 3-0 at Cedarville University Tuesday night by a score of 25-18 in each set.

Urbana dropped to 10-9 overall on the season and returns to league play with a pair of home matches this weekend. Cedarville improved to 13-7 on the year. All three of UU's straight-set losses this season have come on the road.

Hannah Delor and Lexi Reinert each recorded eight kills to lead the Blue Knights. Setter Anna Davis had 23 assists while libero Courtney Niesen gathered a team-high 14 digs. Maggie Burns chipped in with 11 digs and four kills.

Additionally, Kaitlin Trace moved into a second-place tie for the most career blocks by a Blue Knight in the D2 era (209). The junior middle had three blocks Tuesday night and ran her season total to 65.

In the first set, UU trailed 12-9 before a Reinert kill ignited a run by the Blue Knights to move ahead, 15-13. UU remained in front when a Cedarville error made it 17-16, but that would prove to be the last lead for the Blue Knights.

The Yellow Jackets closed out the first set with a 9-1 run, and then never trailed in the final two games.

UU sliced a five-point deficit to one when it trailed 14-13 in the second set, but the Jackets outscored the Blue Knights 11-5 down the stretch.

In the third, UU hung around within a point for the majority of the way and made the score 14-13 again. However, the Jackets answered again to UU's threat and rattled off six consecutive points to maintain control of the match.

Cedarville outhit Urbana .261 to .106 overall in the match. The Yellow Jackets also held the advantage in digs, 55-33.

Liene Miller led the hosts with 15 kills and 10 digs while Sara Beste logged 12 kills and 13 digs. Setter Sierra Schuitema recorded 44 assists for the Yellow Jackets.

UP NEXT: UU returns home this weekend after playing five consecutive road matches. The Blue Knights will host Davis & Elkins Friday at 6 p.m. in Grimes Center. Then, West Virginia Wesleyan comes to town for Saturday's Dig Pink match which is scheduled for 5 p.m. following the home football game.
