Women's Volleyball Climbs Past Concord in Four

ATHENS, W. Va. – After dropping the first set, Urbana responded in impressive fashion to rise past Concord in Friday night's women's volleyball action, 3-1. The Blue Knights won by final set scores of 20-25, 25-16, 25-13, and 25-13.

Urbana improved to 9-8 overall and 5-1 in league play while host Concord dropped to 5-14 (2-5 MEC). The Blue Knights have won six straight over the Mountain Lions.

Lexi Reinert's career-high 16 kills headlined a total team effort which saw the Blue Knights post an overall .301 team attack percentage.

Maggie Burns (12 kills, 13 digs) produced her sixth double-double while Hannah Delor (11 kills, 11 digs) logged her 12th of the season. Natalie Perez tied her career-high mark with 10 kills and Kaitlin Trace chipped in with eight kills and five block assists.

Setter Anna Davis helped lead the way with 50 assists, eight digs, four kills and three aces. It's her sixth outing with more than 40 assists. Meanwhile, libero Courtney Niesen remained steady on defense with a team-high 25 digs to surpass 400 total on the year.

UU never led in the first set as the host Mountain Lions pounced early to build an 8-3 lead. Concord went ahead by as much as 10 in the opener before the Blue Knights tried to climb back, outscoring CU 10-5 down the stretch.

The Blue Knights kept up the momentum gained from the end of the first set and controlled the rest of the match.

UU raced ahead 8-2 in the second set and never trailed. In the third, the Blue Knights closed out the frame with a 20-7 run. Then, UU led by as much as 14 in the final game before sealing the road victory.

UP NEXT: UU has a quick turnaround with Saturday's match at Glenville State College scheduled for a 10 a.m. first serve.
