Volleyball Sweeps Tiffin for Third Straight Win

URBANA, Ohio – Lexi Reinert tied her career-high with 14 kills to help lead Urbana University women's volleyball past Tiffin in straight sets Tuesday at the Grimes Center.

UU (6-7) won its third home match in a row in straight sets during a close non-conference battle: 26-24, 25-23 & 26-24. The victory marked only the second win over Tiffin in the D2 era (2-5).

Reinert continued her recent high level of production, leading the team in kills in each match and averaging 4.2 kills per set during the current homestand.

The Blue Knights produced solid efforts up and down the lineup Tuesday night.

Hannah Delor posted her ninth double-double with a team-high 21 digs and 12 kills. Maggie Burns had nine kills, 11 digs and five assists. Natalie Perez and Kaitlin Trace chipped in from the middle with seven kills, each. The duo also combined for six blocks.

Setter Anna Davis had 38 assists, nine digs and a pair of kills. Davis held serve for a key 7-0 run at the end of the third set. Libero Courtney Niesen collected 14 digs, three assists and an ace.

UU jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the opening set, but Tiffin climbed back to move ahead 21-17 with all of the momentum. However, four straight kills by Delor brought UU back to tie the set at 23-23. Tiffin grabbed the first set-point opportunity on a service error, but UU finished the comeback with three consecutive kills by Reinert, Burns and Perez.

In the second set, the Blue Knights jumped out to a 17-11 lead and never looked back.

UU seemed well on its way to a sweep victory after the long run with Davis serving put the Blue Knights up, 23-17, in the third set.

But, Tiffin never backed down and fought all the way back to take a 24-23 lead. Five of the eight points during the Dragons' run were errors on Urbana.

The Blue Knights finally calmed down and gathered themselves after the Dragon blitz, rattling off back-to-back kills by Reinert and Burns. A bad set from the Dragons ended the match.

Urbana outhit Tiffin .211 to .125 overall in the match with 15 more kills than the Dragons. The Blue Knights held a slight edge in digs, 69-63.

UP NEXT: UU will look to keep rolling at home with Friday's match against Notre Dame (OH). The Falcons are riding a five-match winning streak with a 14-4 overall record. The Blue Knights have won the previous five meetings between the two schools.
