Bobcats Claw Past Blue Knights, 79-69

URBANA, Ohio -- The Urbana men's basketball team fell 79-69 against West Virginia Wesleyan in a conference clash Thursday night at the Grimes Center.

The Blue Knights drop to 3-8 (1-6 MEC) while the Bobcats improve to 6-7 (3-4 MEC) overall on the season.

UU claimed a 37-33 lead at halftime following a 14-point outburst from Ethan Snapp. The junior guard hit three consecutive 3-pointers to grab UU's first lead of the night, 31-28, with 4:25 left in the period. Freshman Zach Bates' layup with a minute left put the Blue Knights ahead by six, 37-31, before WVWC made a layup at the buzzer.

However, the Bobcats moved back in front two minutes into the second half and never relinquished the lead.

Datrey Long's 3-pointer with 11 minutes left tied the score 52-52, but that was as close as the Blue Knights could get. WVWC's lead swelled to as much as 13 down the stretch.

UU shot 44 percent overall and 42 percent from range (11-26), but the visitors recorded a 50-percent clip overall and from beyond the arc (10-20). Wesleyan took advantage at the free-throw line (17-22) and and outscored UU 30-12 in bench points.

//  INDIVIDUAL STATS
Snapp had a game-high of 18 points while knocking down five 3-pointers, finishing one shy of his career-best mark of six treys. Senior Malik Jacobs produced his third career double-double with 14 points along with 10 rebounds. Long added 13 points and eight rebounds. Junior Mike Ryan chipped in with nine points and freshman Matt Treacy had eight. In addition, junior transfer Anthony Freeman made his debut and drilled his first shot attempt on a 3-pointer.

Wesleyan's Fred Brondsted and Luka Petrovic each had 15 points and Dusan Vicentic scored 14 points with eight rebounds.
