TIFFIN, Ohio – Urbana (1-4) scored the second-most points in the school's D2 era in Saturday's 125-82 blowout win over Carlow (2-8) in the third-place game of the Tiffin Thanksgiving Tournament.
After a slow start, UU raced out to a 67-34 lead at halftime as junior
Mike Ryan scored 20 of his career-high 25 points in the opening period. Ryan shot a perfect 4 of 4 from three-point range and finished 9 of 10 (90%) from the floor.
The Blue Knights scored 85 bench points led by Ryan,
Darius Barksdale (15 pts, 6 rebs) and
Ethan Snapp (14 pts).
Malik Jacobs reached double figures with 14 points, six boards and four assists while
Jordan Bradley dished out a career-high eight helpers with eight points.
All 13 players scored for UU as the squad finished with the highest team field-goal percentage in the D2 era (63.9) and second-most made field goals (46). The team also recorded the fifth-most assists in the D2 era (23) and knocked down a season-high 12 3-pointers.
In the first half, three straight baskets from Ryan gave UU a 15-9 lead at the first media timeout. In fact, 15 of the team's first 18 points were scored by reserve players.
Shortly after, Snapp continued his hot-shooting from yesterday's performance with back-to-back three's to ignite a 14-0 run
– lifting UU ahead 32-14 at the under-10 media timeout.
UU controlled the rest of the game as the lead swelled to as much as 47 points. The Blue Knights limited the Celtics to 39-percent shooting and held a 42-36 edge on the glass.
Carlow's Rece Henneman led the visitors with 19 points while Tony Acrie posted a double-double with 17 points and 15 boards.
