Urbana Mounts Huge Comeback in Tournament Finale

URBANA, Ohio -- Fittingly, the best match of the UU Invitational came in the finale as Urbana women's volleyball (5-7) overcame a 2-1 deficit to outlast Lindenwood (8-4) in a five-set thriller Saturday evening in Grimes Center.

The Blue Knights finished the homestand with a 3-1 record after defeating Cal (Pa.) 3-0 earlier in the day.

Senior outside Katlynn Dunlap led the way with her third straight double-double, and fifth this season, by posting 18 kills and 17 digs in the nightcap.

Freshman middle hitter Kaitlin Trace contributed with 12 kills (.318) while sophomore Cecily Clark registered a career-high 10 kills (.297) with nine digs. Senior libero Maia Dunlap gathered 12 digs while eight different Blue Knights had at least four digs. Freshman duo Anna Davis and Deandra Atwood dished out 29 and 13 assists, respectively.

As a team, UU outhit LU .368 to .091 and the Blue Knights finished 57 percent on sideout.

In a match that featured 32 tied scores, UU won the opening set 25-20 before the visiting Lions took the wind out of the Blue Knights' sails with two straight victories, 25-16, 26-24.

UU found its energy toward the end of Set 4 to pull out the narrow 27-25 triumph and even the match.

In that set, the score was tied five times from the 20th point on, until a Cecily Clark kill ignited the Grimes Center for a 26-25 UU advantage. The momentum was completely on UU's side after that play and the set ended on a Lindenwood attack error.

Then, UU jumped out to a 6-3 lead in the final set but the visitors didn't go away and evened the score back up at 6-6. However, that was as close as Lindenwood would get after the Blue Knights outscored the Lions 9-3 to finish off the match with a final score of 15-9.
