Blue Knights Drop Pair at Ashland Tourney

ASHLAND, Ohio - The season opener for Urbana volleyball featured two matches at the 2017 Quality Inn Ashland University Tournament, hosted by AU Friday and Saturday. UU fell in straight sets in both contests Friday, going down 25-15, 25-22, 25-18 against Pitt-Johnstown and 25-13, 25-16, 25-13 to the host Eagles inside Kates Gymnasium.

In the first match, sophomore Emilee Skerbetz led the Blue Knights with seven kills on 10 total attack attempts (.700). Katlynn Dunlap and Kaitlin Trace both had six kills while Madison Davis (5 kills), Cecily Clark (4 kills) and Aleese Butler (4 kills) also contributed to the effort. Freshman Deandra Atwood provided a team-high 15 assists with five digs, and senior Maia Dunlap led the way with eight digs.

Both teams hit .382 in the second set, but the Mountain Cats hit .385 overall while limiting the Blue Knights to a .274 mark.

In the second contest, UU competed against a tough Eagles squad coming off a regional quarterfinal appearance in 2016. Junior Madison Davis and freshman Courtney Niesen led with four kills, while Niesen produced an impressive 18 digs. Freshman Kaitlin Trace registered three kills and freshman Anna Davis led with eight assists.
