UU Volleyball Announces 2017 Schedule


URBANA, Ohio – Urbana University head women's volleyball coach Tim Balice announced the 2017 schedule on Wednesday. The Blue Knights return five seniors from last year's squad that finished 20-14 (10-6 MEC), which marked the first winning record in 10 years for UU women's volleyball.

This season, UU will play 34 regular-season contests with 16 matchups inside the Grimes Center. All home matches are free for UU students, staff, and faculty. General admission cost is $5.

UU opens the fall slate with three consecutive weekend tournaments. The Blue Knights will travel to the Ashland University Tournament on Friday-Saturday, Sept. 1-2, in Ashland, Ohio. Then, UU will compete in a key lineup against regional foes at the MEC/PSAC Crossover Tournament, hosted by the University of Charleston on Friday-Saturday, Sept. 8-9.

After opening with eight road matches, the Blue and Grey will be set to open the home schedule with the Third Annual Urbana Fall Invitational on Friday-Saturday, Sept. 15-16. This year's tournament features nine matches and five teams - Cal. U. (Pa.), Gannon, Lindenwood, Roberts Wesleyan, and Urbana.

Then, UU will face a key stretch with eight of the following 10 matches on the road.

Conference play begins at Notre Dame College (Sept. 22), and the Blue Knights will travel to Cedarville (Sept. 26), West Liberty (Sept. 29), Wheeling Jesuit (Sept. 30), and Ohio Dominican (Oct. 3).

UU returns home for back-to-back league matches against Fairmont State (Oct. 6) and Shepherd (Oct. 7), before taking the road again to UVa-Wise (Oct. 13), Concord (Oct. 14), and Findlay (Oct. 18).

Once the road test is complete, UU will begin a favorable schedule to round out the regular season with 10 of the final 12 matches in the Grimes Center.

League matchups include West Virginia Wesleyan (Oct. 20), Glenville State (Oct. 21), West Virginia State (Oct. 27), Charleston (Oct. 31), Notre Dame (Nov. 7), Wheeling Jesuit (Nov. 10), and West Liberty (Nov. 11). UU will also play at Shepherd (Nov. 3) and Fairmont State (Nov. 4).

The Mountain East Conference Championship will take place Nov. 16-18, hosted by the top seed.
