Evan Amstutz & Alex Fuelling Join Volleyball Staff

URBANA, Ohio – Urbana head women's volleyball coach Tim Balice announced two assistant coaches, Evan Amstutz and Alex Fuelling, have joined the program for the upcoming 2017 season.

"I'm excited and very fortunate to have a tremendous staff on board for this year," Balice said. "It is obvious that these two share a high level of value towards developing the entire student-athlete. We are glad to have Evan and Alex join our Blue Knight family."

Amstutz most recently served as the inaugural head men's volleyball coach at NCAA Division III Wittenberg University, leading the Tigers to a 14-11 record in program's first season of existence. For his efforts, Amstutz was honored with the American Volleyball Coaches Association 30 under 30 Award. Before his time at Wittenberg, Amstutz was a graduate assistant coach at Miami University (Ohio) where he earned his master's degree in kinesiology and health.

Amstutz brings club experience as well, coaching for the Ohio Valley Region High Performance Boy's Program, whom he helped guide to a No. 4 national ranking, and Dayton Juniors Volleyball Club.

Evan graduated from Wittenberg in 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. He currently resides in Springfield, Ohio.

"Evan had a major impact on the programs that he has been involved with and I'm excited to have him work with our team," Balice mentioned. "Although we are looking forward to adding his analytical and technical skills to our staff, I feel his greatest attributes will shine in his passion for the game."

Fuelling spent last fall as the varsity head coach at Adams Central High School (Ind.) and currently coaches at the Cincy Classics Volleyball Club and Midwest Athletic Performance in Mason, Ohio.

A former all-conference player at Ball State, Fuelling will spread her knowledge to the Blue Knights gained from a successful playing career. She was a four-year starter at the Division I level, won two state high school championships, and an AAU National Championship.

Fuelling graduated from Ball State last December with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science. She lives in Cincinnati, Ohio.

"Although this is her first college coaching gig, Alex has extremely valuable experience both playing and coaching club and high school teams," Balice said. "Her foundational understanding of the demands a student-athlete has from a day-to-day basis, as well as the technical training component will help her transition quickly into this position."

Urbana opens the 2017 season on Sept. 1 at the Ashland University Tournament.
