UU Falls in Five Sets at Shepherd

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W. Va. -- The Urbana women's volleyball team suffered a five-set defeat at Shepherd Friday night in Mountain East Conference play.

UU (16-14, 8-4 MEC) trailed 2-1 and persevered to even the match by taking the fourth set by a final score of 26-24. SU (19-6, 8-4 MEC) came on top in the final and deciding frame, 15-9. UU captured the opening set 25-21 and then dropped 25-22 and 25-14 decisions in the second and third.

Senior middle hitter Aleese Butler led the Blue Knights with a season-high 12 kills on 23 attempts (.435). The Blue Knights were limited to a .050 attack percentage overall while producing 11 total service aces. Junior Madison Davis delivered a career-high four aces. Seniors Katlynn Dunlap (15 digs) and Maia Dunlap (13 digs) led the way defensively, along with freshman Courtney Niesen (13 digs). Freshmen duo Deandra Atwood and Anna Davis combined for 38 assists.
