Blue Knights Tame Panthers on the Road, 3-1

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Urbana women's volleyball team came-from-behind to defeat Ohio Dominican 3-1 on the road Tuesday night inside ODU's Alumni Hall.

The host Panthers claimed a narrow 26-24 opening-set win, before the Blue Knights rattled off three straight set victories: 25-21, 25-20 and 25-19. UU improves to 8-9 overall following the non-conference victory.

Katlynn Dunlap continued her dominance with a team-high 20 kills and 17 digs. The senior outside hitter passed the 1,400 kill mark for her career during the match.

Junior Cecily Clark also hit well with 17 kills while sophomore Emilee Skerbetz chipped in with six kills and three blocks. Freshman Anna Davis contributed 28 assists while senior Brianna Burkhalter gathered 16 digs.

UU fought back from a 19-13 deficit  in the first set to even the score at 23-23 on a Dunlap kill. Then, both teams traded a point before the Panthers edged out the Blue Knights.

In Set 2, ODU held the lead again and went up 16-12. However, UU made a quick run for a 17-17 tie and then outscored the Panthers 8-4 down the stretch off kills from Clark, Dunlap and Skerbetz.

The Blue Knights captured the third set with ease and then closed out the match with yet another strong finish to close the fourth. After the teams played to an 18-18 tie, UU buried the hosts with a 7-1 spurt to seal the victory.

Both teams hit near the same percentage with UU posting a team mark of .210 and ODU at .213. The Panthers (3-13) were led by Ciara Ralston's 17 kills and 16 digs.

Up next:
UU will host its first home MEC match Friday night against Fairmont State in Grimes Center. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.
