Blue Knights Extend Win Streak to Four Games

UU defeated Wesleyan 86-61 on Tuesday night

URBANA, Ohio - Urbana University men's basketball won its fourth straight game by outscoring West Virginia Wesleyan 50-21 in the second half to overcome a four-point halftime deficit on Tuesday night. The Blue Knights cruised past the Bobcats to a final score of 86-61 and have now won the most consecutive games since 2010.

With the victory, UU moved above .500 with an overall record of 6-5 while earning the first Mountain East Conference win of the season (1-4). Wesleyan dropped to 5-6 overall and 2-3 in league play. It was the first time the Blue Knights defeated the Bobcats in the eighth meeting between the two squads.

UU's leading scorer Jahmere Howze led the way with a game-high 21 points and pulled down eight rebounds in 24 minutes of action. Howze finished 9 of 15 from the field and raised his season scoring average to 17.8 points per game.

DeQuan Abrom reached double figures for the eight straight outing and lit up the nets on 8-of-11 shooting. Additionally, Carlas Jackson, Dalton Payton and Ethan Snapp each recorded 10 points on the night. The Blue Knights were highly efficient from the floor, shooting 57 percent overall.

Wesleyan led by as much as 10 in the first half while shooting a scorching 68 percent for a 40-36 lead at halftime, but the difference came in the second frame as UU limited the Bobcats to just three field goals (3 of 20).

The Blue Knights came out of the halftime break with an 11-0 run and never looked back. Key numbers included a plus-13 margin on the glass and 52-24 scoring advantage in the paint.

UU returns to action Thursday night against Glenville State (5-4, 2-3 MEC). Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET, as the Blue Knights aim to tie their highest win streak during the school's Division II era.
