Urbana's Win Streak Snapped at Four

URBANA, Ohio - Urbana University men's basketball came up short against Glenville State, 87-78, on Thursday night in Grimes Center. UU jumped out to an 11-0 lead and led by five at halftime but shooting woes cost the Blue Knights their fifth straight win.

UU dropped to 6-6 overall and 1-5 in conference play while the Pioneers improved to 6-4 (3-3) on the season.

Freshman guard DeQuan Abrom led four Blue Knights in double figures with 22 points on 8-of-16 shooting. Abrom has scored double digits in nine straight games and has topped 20 points in four of the previous five contests.

Also reaching double figures were Carlas Jackson with 16 points and five boards, Jahmere Howze with 15 points and nine boards (has scored 10+ every game), and Charles Sweatt-Washington with 14 points and nine rebounds.

The Blue Knights made a season-low three 3-pointers on 20 attempts (15.0%) and allowed the Pioneers to shoot 55 percent in the second half.

After Glenville State took its first lead of the game 50-49, Sweatt-Washington gave UU the lead right back 51-50 on a jumper with 12:55 remaining. From there, the Pioneers outscored the Blue Knights 9-2 across the next five minutes for a 60-53 lead with under eight minutes to go.

Then, UU battled back within two points on an Abrom layup with 4:27 to go and a Sweatt-Washington jumper cut it to 68-66 with 3:23 left; but that was as close as the Knights could get.

Urbana returns to action Sunday afternoon at UVa-Wise. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m. ET.
