UU Held to Season-Low 63 Points by No. 6 WJU

WHEELING, W. Va. – The sixth-ranked Wheeling Jesuit Cardinals downed Urbana University men's basketball by a final count of 89-63 Saturday afternoon in the McDonough Center.

UU (8-10, 3-9 MEC) has now lost four straight games since posting the program's best start in 20 years. Wheeling Jesuit (16-2, 10-2 MEC) bounced back from a double-overtime loss on Thursday.

Junior Dalton Payton led the Blue Knights with a career-high 19 points, while going 4 of 6 from beyond the arc. Payton was the only player to score double digits for UU.

Carlas Jackson, AJ Washington and Jahmere Howze each chipped in with nine points. Howze, who leads UU in scoring this season, was kept under 10 points for the first time all season.

UU was limited to its lowest scoring output and worst field-goal percentage (32 percent) of the season.

The Blue Knights took the first lead on a Washington 3-pointer and then built a 7-6 advantage five minutes into the game. However, the hot-shooting Cardinals reclaimed the lead with a 15-1 run and stayed in front the rest of the way.

Wheeling Jesuit shot 52 percent overall, led by four players in double digits. The Cardinals held a 48-32 advantage on the glass and outscored UU 42-24 on points in the paint.

Urbana returns to action Thursday for a 7:30 p.m. contest at Glenville State College.
