#6 Cardinals Sink Blue Knights at Home

URBANA, Ohio - The Urbana University volleyball team suffered a 3-0 setback to the reigning NCAA Division II national champion and sixth-ranked Wheeling Jesuit on Saturday afternoon in Grimes Center.

The Cardinals raced out to a quick advantage by taking the first set 25-9. UU then responded nicely in the second set, grabbing an early 3-1 lead, but the visitors outlasted the Blue Knights 25-20. WJU then came back with a rapid 25-8 win to clinch the match.

Urbana drops to 7-8 overall and remains even in league play at 1-1. Wheeling Jesuit improved to 13-2 overall and 3-0 against MEC opponents.

Aleese Butler led Urbana with six kills and .364 attacking percentage (6-11). Mari King and Katlynn Dunlap also picked up a team-high six kills, but Urbana struggled overall against a lengthy WJU front. UU hit at a negative percentage (-.010) as the Cardinals racked up 15 blocks.

Dunlap also led the squad with 11 digs with Audrey Pumford recording six digs. Alyssa Myers had 22 assists from her setter position.

The Blue Knights will hit the road next weekend for conference matches at Fairmont State (Friday, 7 p.m.) and Shepherd (Saturday, 2 p.m.).
